Engaging Him.

It’s rare that I write SUPER personal things on this blog, much less things about my Faith, but today is different. Even if no one ends up reading, I still think I should share. In short, I just wanted to share that prayer actually works, go figure.

There was about a month and a half dry period where I wasn’t booking ANYTHING. No shoots, no weddings, nothing. I was becoming slowly discouraged by it and just had accepted the fact that I’d only have a few weddings this year.

Last week I woke up and got some hot water going on the kettle. I made myself a cup of fruit berry tea and plopped on the couch and just sat there. I began to casually pray for small things, for my desires in life, etc. As the idea of weddings came to my mind I prayed about that as well. “Father I ask that you would bring more brides my way. I thank you for fun, creative, out of the box brides. That even now you are directing them to my website.” And that was it. No two hour long prayer, I just asked God that He would fulfill that financial need and heart desire.

That day and the next I got 3 inquiries for weddings and then in one week I booked 4 weddings. FOUR! After each booking, Josh and I would say “Thank you Jesus!”, reminding ourselves that it was NOTHING that I did to book these, but it was God. Furthermore, I was reminded that God DOES want to supply my needs and fullfill my desires, BUT, He also wants me to ENGAGE HIM. He wants US to engage Him.

I’m blown away that I prayed. And it worked. Simple. Go figure!

Every blog post needs pictures. Here’s some of Josh and I at Ravens Nest from last week. They were shot on super SUPER expired cheap walmart film, so don’t judge :)

Ashley Irvin - I just wanted to let you know know that I read this post and it made me smile and gave me encouragement (although my dry spell has been a lot longer hehe). I’ve been following your work for awhile now from Missouri, and now Idaho. Your images are amazing and I like how much your personality and faith shine through it. Keep it up- God is good!
    Sincerely,
    AshleyReplyCancel

Nicole - I stumbled upon your website from the form spring question you asked Kirk Martin about film. Since I am starting my foray into film I decided to hop on over to your site and have been trolling your lovely images all morning. Usually I am a silent blog stalker to photography sites, just quietly taking in images without leaving comments. However, I had to comment on this post. I have been on a journey to let go and acknowledge that God is really the captain of the ship and as you so simply & elegantly put it ” engage him”. Engage him in every aspect of my life and allow him to carry my load and have faith that he will give me what I need (and I will have the sight to recognize this even when it’s not what I have been wanting). So thank you for this encouraging post :)ReplyCancel
